Builder Locked In for Narrabeen Sports High’s 380-Seat Performance Hall

Narrabeen Sports High School is moving closer to construction of a new 380-seat performance hall, with TCQ Construction awarded the contract for the next major stage of the school’s upgrade.

The NSW Department of Education confirmed the appointment in its latest project update. The new hall is planned as a dedicated space for performances, exhibitions and workshops, with completion forecast for mid-2027.

For students, the project will add a purpose-built creative venue to a campus already strongly associated with sport. Narrabeen Sports High is an Australian Olympic Pathway School, while the new hall will create more room for music, performance and other creative work within the school day.

A Bigger Stage For Students

Plans for the building centre on a 117.4-square-metre stage, backed by a 66.6-square-metre holding area and an 86.45-square-metre band rehearsal room. A foyer, storage spaces, change rooms, toilets, a first aid room and an office are also included.

A covered outdoor deck is planned along the western side of the hall, while the lower ground level will include a paved forecourt and covered entry. Two airlock rooms will provide access to the main hall, with stairs and provision for lifts incorporated into the design.

The project has also been shaped by advocacy within the school. Principal Heidi Currie and P&C president Suzie Stanford have been recognised for pushing for improvements that give students with different interests and talents more opportunities on campus.

Currie has described the broader upgrade program as part of the school’s effort to create learning spaces where students can develop across a range of disciplines. The performance hall follows completed work elsewhere at Narrabeen Sports High, including upgraded classrooms, science laboratories, music and performance areas, amenities and roofing across several blocks.

From Plans To The Building Site

The latest update puts the project beyond the design and approval stage and into preparation for construction. Site establishment works were expected to begin in late September, although planning for the construction vehicle access entrance was still being finalised when the update was issued. Further details on site establishment and the construction timetable were due once those arrangements were settled.

Funding for the broader school upgrade included $2.898 million in the 2025–26 NSW Budget, followed by a further $9.46 million in 2026–27 for the performance centre and other works.

The hall will be built at Narrabeen Sports High School’s Namona Street campus in North Narrabeen. With the builder now appointed, the next confirmed step is site establishment, while the Department continues to list mid-2027 as the target for completion.
